Recipe: Lemon Basil Turkey Burgers

These grilled turkey burgers are packed with protein and summer flavor. A dash of lemon makes the turkey taste brighter. And we’ve added a secret ingredient to the burgers to keep them juicy—fresh blueberries. We love to serve these burgers on whole wheat buns with tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and fresh basil. They are also great served over a salad, wrapped in lettuce, or served in a whole wheat pita. Serve with this Arugula Salad and finish with Grilled Peaches for a full summer menu.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound 99% lean ground turkey breast
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

Preheat grill over high heat. Clean and oil grates.

Mix ingredients together in a large bowl. Form into 4 equal-sized patties.

Place patties on grill and reduce heat to medium high. Grill for approximately 4 minutes on each side. Burgers should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees F, as measured with a meat thermometer in the center of the patty. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes. Burgers will continue to rise in temperature to a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

Serve on whole wheat buns with tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and basil.

Recipe note:

  • Grilled red onions are another great addition to these burgers. Simply brush the onions with olive oil and grill alongside the turkey burgers, flipping halfway through cooking time.
